Payment:

A down payment of 50 % is required at the time of your booking, with the balance of 50% (plus security deposit) due within 30 days of your rental-period. If booking less than 4 weeks prior to your rental-period, full-payment is required upon booking. . All payments made within two weeks of a rental period must be by certified cheque or money order. Note that your security-deposit will be cashed, and any applicable refund will be sent by cheque back to you.

There are no taxes applicable

Security Deposit

A security deposit of $300 will be cashed, and held until 14 days after your departure. Any applicable refund will be returned to you, by cheque, after that period. Costs will be deducted for clean-up if the cottage is not left as you found it), damages, and charges for long distance if you use the phone (plus an admin fee of $5 PER CALL) if you use the phone for anything but local calling.. Please bring a calling card.

  • Children’s life jackets,

TELEPHONE
The telephone is for emergency use only. You are responsible for any phone charges. Please use your own phone, or calling card, or reverse the charges. Note that any charges will be deducted from your Security Deposit, along with a service fee of $5:00 per call.
Special Instructions: The phone is shared with the owner and is used for business. Please do not use it

PARKING
There is room for 3 vehicles in your driveway

SMOKING
Smoking is not allowed inside the cottage. There are butt-cans outside. Please use them and do not litter the property with cigarette butts.

WATER SYSTEMS
You should bring your own drinking water. The cottage takes water from a well. Please do not leave taps running or use large volumes of water ina short period of time.

SEPTIC
Please respect the septic system by allowing only human waste and toilet paper down the toilet. Any other materials may back up the septic system, causing extreme unpleasantness! EVEN IF IT SAYS FLUSHABLE IT DOES NOT GO IN THE TOILET. Special Instructions: Please do not pour grease down the sink again because of the septic. Put it in a can to throw out.

GARBAGE
You are responsible for removal of all garbage and recycling when you leave. Garbage is picked up on Wednesday mornings at the end of your driveway. Place it out in the morning in the garbage pail provided . Otherwise, the nearest garbage disposal site is North on Highway 28 to Haultain. Hours of operation are on the fridge.
Recycling list is on the fridge. Wash all recycling carefully and place in box. It too is picked up early on Wednesday. It goes to the beginning of the fire route at Northey’s Bay Rd.
ANIMALS SUCH AS RACCOONS, SKUNKS AND BEARS LOVE GARBAGE AND RECYCLING. Use the locked garbage pail.
DO NOT LEAVE ANY GARBAGE OR RECYCLING BEHIND. Take your garbage with you.

WATERCRAFT
All watercraft must have the appropriate safety equipment in the craft when in use. It is your responsibility to ensure that you have the container containing this equipment as well as properly sized lifejackets when on the water.Life jackets and safety containers are to be returned to the black storage container on the dock after each use but please be sure they are dry. Do not store them wet.

GAS BBQ
There is a gas BBQ. Should you run out of Propane, it is your responsibility to refill it. Do not leave it empty for the next guest. Propane is available at Big Cedar General Store south on Highway 28.

COTTAGE CLEANING
The cottage MUST be as clean as it was when you arrived, otherwise cleaning costs will be deducted from your Security Deposit.Special Instructions: Cleaning supplies are provided. They are under the kitchen and bathroom sinks. Mops, brooms and vacuum are in the storage closet.

BOATING
When boating use extreme caution. Stoney has 1100 islands ! Some are just below the water surface. If not familiar with the lake, stay on marked (buoyed) Trent Canal Channels. Stoney is beautiful but can be dangerous to the careless boater.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To leave the cottage the way you found it.
  • To remove all garbage, recycling
  • Fires: There is an outdoor fireplace near the water.
  • Please be careful when having a fire. Do not leave the cottage when a fire is burning. Burn only regular firewood, and never cut down trees on the property!  Please be extra diligent at tending the fire, and keeping it within the boundaries of the pit area. Never burn an outdoor fire on a windy day, and always make sure the fire is completely out before leaving it. Keep a full pail of water beside the fire at all times and use it to douse fire thoroughly.
  • Special Instructions: NO FIRES WHEN THERE IS A BURN BAN (as posted by the County). Do not burn if it will blow into the neighbours and spoil their enjoyment of their property

DIRECTIONS

From Peterborough: North on 29/28 thru Burleigh Falls and Woodview, then Right on Northey’s Bay Road for approximately 4 kilometers. Turn right on Fire route 11 To # 32

Driving time from Toronto is approximately 21/2 hours.

From the east side of Peterborough: take County rd 46 north from #7 then turn right on County Rd 6 and left on Northey’s Bay Rd. Go approximately 7 km then turn left on Fire route 11 to #32.

 

NEARBY ATTRACTIONS

  • The famous Petroglyphs Provincial Park is just up the road. It features Indian carvings, hiking trails along Eel’s Creek.
  • The Warsaw caves are nearby.
  • Woodview General Store carries books by local artists and writers and gifts and supplies.
  • The Firehall Restaurant is a great place to take the kids to see all the overhead trains and fire memorabilia.
  • Viamede Resort and Mount Julian provide fine dining.
  • Boat tours of Lower Stony can be arranged there too.
  • Peterborough has the Festival of Lights twice a week and other festivals as well. Lakefield has several festivals: a Buskers festival, a Literary Festival, and more.
  • There are booklets outlining some of the many events in the top drawer of the buffet.
